The Martian landscape is a challenging environment for humans, but that hasn't stopped us before. Our desire to explore is still within us, and the goal of setting foot on Mars is just another example of this.
I traveled to Death Valley, a place used by scientists as a terrestrial stand-in for Mars. This composite image was taken using an infrared camera in the salt flats of Death Valley, one of the most challenging environments on Earth.
